Medicare Supplement Plans
As you may know, Original Medicare doesn’t cover all of the costs associated with your health care needs. That’s where Medicare Supplement (aka Medigap) comes in to play. These plans help fill in the gaps left by Medicare Parts A & B including copayments, coinsurance and deductibles. To qualify, you will need to be already enrolled in Medicare A and B, be 65 years or older, and be a resident in the state that you’re applying. If you have already enrolled in a Part C plan, then you will not be eligible for these policies. To enroll in Medicare Supplement, there is an Open Enrollment Period that spans six months and starts the first month you have been enrolled in Medicare Part B.
Medicare Advantage Plans
Part C plans, better known as Medicare Advantage plans, are another option for you to fill the gaps of Original Medicare. These plans combine your Part A and B coverage into a single policy, so you have less to juggle. Oftentimes, these policies will have $0 monthly premiums. If you know what to look for, you may even land a plan that includes benefits with dental, hearing and vision care. To qualify for a Medicare Advantage plan, you must already be enrolled in Medicare Part A and B and live in the county with which the plan is provided.
